PRIME 5.2

Building on the industry-leading Adobe integrations, designer ease-of-use, and all-encompassing playout control of the PRIME graphics engine – PRIME 5.2 accelerates and simplifies every step in the lifecycle of a CG graphic. At the core of the 5.2 release are game-changing enhancements to PRIME’s rich integration with Adobe After Effects and Adobe Illustrator.

In addition, PRIME 5.2 provides new tools to quickly manage complex scenes, build out foolproof control workflows, and deliver superior PRIME software performance.

The New Standard for Adobe Integration

PRIME Adobe After Effects Exporter 2.0 - Precomp Support

PRIME 5.2 introduces an updated After Effects export tool that enables designers to directly import projects into PRIME Designer, with support for first level precomps as base scenes. This is fantastic news for designers, who can now go from blank canvas to fluid on-air graphics in literal minutes with an Adobe After Effects project – without having to flatten a project into pre-rendered clips. Upon import into PRIME, the full functionality of the original After Effects project remains intact, allowing designers to immediately start formatting their project into a PRIME scene for live playout with intuitive logic, rich data-binding, and replaceable elements. It’s never been easier to get started with a CG engine leveraging common Adobe design skillsets.

Adobe Illustrator .AI and .PDF Vector Import

Furthering Adobe Integration, PRIME 5.2 introduces support for direct import of Adobe Illustrator .ai and .pdf files. Designers can quickly and easily import their favorite logos as true vector objects, allowing for unlimited scale, rapid import, and easy 3D object creation for on-air graphics.

Accelerate Your Design Process

Search Scene Tree by Type and Tag

Designers can now locate specific objects within a large scene tree faster than ever before, greatly speeding up creation of scenes, logic, and control panels! PRIME 5.2 enables users to do a granular search for objects of any type – including graphics, effects, resources, parameters, expressions, conditions, and replaceables. This feature allows for filtering by multiple criteria for fine-tune searching, for example: scene layers that include an Image and a Mask Effect. Designers can also highlight objects based on specific tags within the scene tree.

Copy and Paste AutoFollow Expressions

Our development team received widespread feedback from PRIME designers that AutoFollow Expressions are used heavily in a multitude of graphics, but that it was time consuming to manually add them to each and every scene. With PRIME 5.2, designers can now copy and paste AutoFollow Expressions into Logic, Conditions, or another Expression - you can even auto-convert an Auto Follow Expression into a PRIME Expression via simple drag and drop. This improvement saves time, simplifies scene building, and lowers the barrier to learning PRIME for new designers.

Open / Edit Base Scenes from Scene Tree

Users can now quickly and easily open a Base Scene from within a PRIME Scene via simple right click on the Base Scene Resource or Graphic type within the scene tree. This improvement eliminates the time spent manually scrolling through the asset browser to find and edit a base scene.

Color Property for PRIME Shape Primitives

PRIME designers can now quickly and easily add color to rectangle, pod, and circle primitives - without the need of a material or other building methods. Use tags, style sheets, and logic effectively just like other primitives which already supported the color property.

Independent Designer Canvas Channel Setting

Historically, the PRIME Designer Canvas automatically matched to the video and audio configuration of the first playout output channel, which could cause frustration depending on the design task or workstation equipment – such as building HDR graphics without a non-HDR monitor. PRIME 5.2 enables users to define PRIME Designer Canvas settings independent from the first playout channel – including video standard, SDR/HDR range, bit depth, and audio settings.

Animate Shader Effect X and Y Position

First popularized by NBC’s Olympic graphics package built on PRIME, the custom-coding capability of shader effects is seeing rapid adoption to create bespoke visuals that push the boundaries of CG graphics. With the 5.2 release, designers can now animate both the X and Y property values of the shader effect, enabling greater animations and fluid designs that were not possible before using the shader tool – without relying on the use of a clip.

More Responsive Playout Control

Control Panel Text Control Border Colors

An excellent feature addition for playout operators who need to manage scenes with numerous text objects, PRIME 5.2 enhances control and master control panels with definable border colors. Users can define a standard Border color – that is visible when the text box is not in use – as well as an Active Border color that appears when the text object is activated for editing. These colors can even be bound to logic and data to provide visual feedback on text objects during data updates.

Accessible Advanced Control Panel Properties

The PRIME team received feedback that there are a variety of advanced properties for control panels and master control panels that are commonly used during panel creation. With PRIME 5.2, these advanced features are now directly available from the basic property editor.

Designate Controls for Program, Preview, or Both

Producers can now safeguard playout operators from on-air playout mistakes with the option to expose controls in Preview, Program, or a combination of both. For instance, with a bar chart graphic, changes to titles, images, and bar coloring could be gated solely to the preview channel – so that abrupt changes to the graphic style aren’t possible on-air in the program channel.

Remote Engine Channel Index

Quickly and easily setup intuitive control workflows for multiple PRIME remote engines on the same IP address and port with a definable Channel index value. This saves time and hassle for remote engine users, who previously had to follow the playout configuration channel order of the primary playout system.

Draggable X and Y Touch Control

For PRIME Touchscreen applications, users now have a Continuously Update Position property option that allows for fluid X and Y drag control of objects on a touch screen. Previously, users could drag an object on a touchscreen, but it would not update position until touch was released. This feature also offers exciting touch presentation opportunities with other tools in the Chyron ecosystem – such as PRIME VSAR.

Faster PRIME Performance

Faster PRIME Replaceables Performance

Many PRIME customers have both manual and automated workflows that utilize hundreds – if not thousands – of replaceable elements within a scene. The PRIME team has optimized load performance of replaceables, increasing the speed by 50%! This is a very welcome improvement that ensures complex scenes with lots of replaceables load a lot faster.

Faster Startup That Prioritizes Playout

In the anxiety-inducing event of a system crash, restart, or outage during live production – every second counts in getting back on-air. Our development team has optimized PRIME Playout to launch faster than ever before. This quality-of-life improvement ensures operators and automation workflows get back on-air faster in the event PRIME has to be relaunched.
