PRIME 5.1 represents a widescale effort on behalf of the PRIME team to address the quality-of-life requests and user feedback we heard from designers and playout operators over 2024.
With fine tweaks that streamline managing complex scene trees, building control panels, implementing scene images/clips, and more – any day-to-day PRIME user is sure to find major timesavings in this latest update. Additionally, PRIME 5.1 adds support for licensable SRT input and outputs for professional, dependable streaming productions.
PRIME 5.1 introduces support for Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) inputs and outputs, which are available via an additional software license. SRT is a video protocol that is seeing widespread broadcast adoption due to its low-latency and high-reliability for streaming productions.
By accounting for packet loss, jitter, as well as video and audio timing recovery – SRT streams are capable of delivering the best video quality possible over unreliable networks. Chyron is well-versed in SRT streaming productions through our work with the SRT Alliance, as well as streaming productions with Chyron LIVE - our all-in-one cloud production platform. Now, with version 5.1, the powerful CG graphics capability of PRIME is available for SRT live streams.
With Version 5.1, the PRIME team is addressing the number one request we heard from customers in 2024: The ability to select multiple objects in the scene tree, drag/drop them into the control panel, and automatically populate these control panel objects in a specific direction. This is a massive time-saving improvement, thanks to the feedback of our PRIME community!
Scene Tree Multi-Object Auto Scroll
When selecting and dragging multiple objects in a PRIME scene tree, the scene tree will now auto scroll with your cursor movement. Previously, the scene tree would remain static when trying to drag multiple objects. Now, it’s much easier to re-arrange large groups of objects within a scene.
Drag Multiple Objects from Scene Tree to Control Panel
Designers can now quickly and easily create PRIME control panels faster than ever before, with the ability to drag and drop multiple objects onto the control panel canvas at once, auto-creating replaceable control elements. This quality-of-life improvement eliminates the need to individually drag and drop objects – like text fields and image replaceables – from the scene tree to the control panel.
Control Panel Placement Direction
A new control panel setting gives PRIME designers the option to dictate the placement direction of multiple objects that are dragged into the control panel canvas – be it Left to Right or Top to Bottom. Objects will populate in the control panel with even spacing, and will automatically wrap to the next row or column when reaching the limit of the canvas space.
Timeline Playhead Cursor Always Visible Option
PRIME designers now have the option to keep the playhead cursor always visible on the timeline, rather than only being visible when actively navigating the timeline. This is based on feedback from PRIME Designers who desired the ability to easily reference where they are on the timeline at a glance.
Shadow Depth Function Improvement
PRIME’s Shadow Depth Function ensures that text shadows render properly behind text, when adjusting the transform text properties. With PRIME 5.1, when Shadow is enabled on a text object, the Depth function is automatically turned on – users will no longer have to manually toggle this function to ensure proper shadow rendering.
New Base Scene Shortcut Key
For designers who like to quickly drive operations with keyboard shortcuts, a new shortcut key has been added to create new Base Scenes. Users can define a custom shortcut in the PRIME settings, or utilize the default shortcut of Ctrl + Shift + B.
Easier to Read JSON Table Data
Ever looked at a JSON data set and felt overwhelmed? This PRIME 5.1 improvement is for you! With an update to PRIME’s Data Table Resource, JSON table data will now be formatted as an array of rows, where each row is an object of the name value pairs – resulting in a much cleaner, condensed presentation of the JSON data.
Properties Parameter Editor Expansion
PRIME’s Parameters Editor now dynamically resizes based on the available space on the user interface and also offers a scroll bar for navigation, making it far easier to work with effect and object properties in PRIME Designer.
Adaptive Image and Clip Replaceables
Size to File Improvements
When populating an image or clip replaceable with a file that has Size to File selected, Width and Height properties will now be disabled. If size to File is not selected, Width and Height properties will be enabled.
Fullscreen Option Improvement
When the Surface Fullscreen Option is selected for an image or clip replaceable, the Size Mode will now automatically switch to Fixed Sized – forcing the object to be the fullscreen size of the canvas.
New Playout Commands and Configurations
Message Save Notifications and Logging
For fast-paced playout scenarios, like a live sports production, PRIME Messages make it easy to rapidly create a customized reference scene from a base scene template for quick-access on-air playout. With PRIME 5.1, we’ve addressed user feedback that it wasn’t visually obvious when a new Message had been saved by adding a green-light up notification in the toolstrip, as well as the option to log Message saves in the Workflow Logger.
Clear Automation Project
For customers who leverage PRIME’s powerful automation project capability to drive bespoke content across individual PRIME channels, a new Clear Automation Project button has been introduced to easily clear the Automation Manager. Previously, clearing an automation project required sending a blank command in the Automation Manager, which was not immediately obvious to new users.
Expanded Tracking Delay for Augmented Reality
With PRIME 5.1, Chyron’s included camera tracking software for AR applications – Cesium – now provides up to 100 frames of delay to ensure synchronization of camera movement with augmented reality graphics for final output.
6 Channel Audio Configuration
While PRIME has always offered control of up to 16 channels of audio, it was identified that a 6-channel option was not available in the audio configuration dropdown. With PRIME 5.1, this missing option is now available.
Beyond PRIME’s new SRT streaming protocol support, PRIME 5.1 represents a widescale effort on behalf of the Chyron team to address the little quality-of-life improvements that are requested by PRIME designers and playout operators.
At NAB 2025, the PRIME team will be previewing features in our upcoming 5.2 release, which will deliver major new features that will make an impact on newsroom workflows, master control, HTML graphics, and OTT advertising. Be sure to book your appointment on the Chyron Booth at NAB to see the latest features for yourself.
